As I indicated earlier, Microsoft put up a teaser website for Mojave, their new OS - which doesn’t exist. The idea was to do a blind “taste test” for users who had negative views of Windows Vista (and listening to the video, they sure did), tricking them into using Vista, to see how they reacted. In general, the reaction was positive, according to Microsoft. On Tuesday, the video portion of that website went live.

When you initially load the page, it plays one particular video clip (the leftmost “Overview” clip as shown above) automatically. But you can click on any user’s image and see what that particular user had to say once the “gimmick” was revealed.

Some of the blurbs from the “Overview” clip:

So why haven’t you upgraded to Vista yet?
  • Just the bad things I’ve heard about it.
  • It’s horrible; we have so many problems.
  • It crashes.
  • I’ve heard nothing but bad things about Vista, really.
  • I wouldn’t touch the thing.
  • I just heard negative things; I never tried it myself.

Well, I have to confess to you, this is Vista..

  • Really?
  • Blew my mind.
  • Are you serious?
  • Son of a gun. You got me.
  • It’s totally different that I heard it would be like.
  • It represents a lot of things that you could only dream of a few years back.
  • I’m getting it.
  • I’m impressed.

There was at least one person in the myriad of videos that remained skeptical, but all the others I listened to were impressed.

Recover hdd space by removing files left after installing Vista SP1

Posted on Aug 03, 2008

If you have Windows Vista SP1 installed on your PC, you can recover a huge amt. of your HDD space by removing some not so useful files. And for that purpose I’m going to tell you how you can regain about 1.5 gb of your HDD space if you are using 64-bit version of Vista or about 800mb if you are using 32-bit ver. of Vista.

MainBannerImage2

But before proceeding you would want to know from where we will get this extra space. The answer is when you install Service Pack 1 it updates the windows but does not delete the original files which are updated. The only benefit of keeping these files is that if due to any reason you want to uninstall the Service Pack, Windows will restore these original files. But I personally don’t see any benefit of having the ability of going back i.e to uninstall SP1.

So if you think that your system is more stable, compatible and working good after installing SP1 and you would never need to uninstall the Service Pack then just follow the road ahead at the end of which you will get some extra space in your HDD.

Here is how to do this>>>>

1. First of all take note of your current free space on your system drive by checking it’s properties.

2. Click on Start button, type VSP1CLN in the search box and you will get an executable file vsp1cln.exe. This vsp1cln.exe is the SP1 Files Removal Tool which automatically gets installed when you install service pack.

3. Right-click on vsp1cln.exe and click Run as administrator. A command prompt window will open. Here windows will ask you whether you would like to continue or not. Of Course we wanna continue.

cmd

4. To continue you’ll have to press Y(for yes). When you do that the removal process will start.

5. The whole process took approx 10 min's. on my PC coz I’ve the 64 bit ver. installed. If you are using 32 bit Vista it should take about 5 min's or less becoz in that case it deletes lesser files as compared to the x64 ver. When the Clean up process completes you will get a message saying “Windows Vista Service Pack 1 Disk Clean up completed

6. Now to see how much space you actually recovered check free space on your system drive like you did in the first step.

Compare the free space before and after and you’ll see the difference.

Increase vista boot Up speed on dual/quad core cpu's

Posted on Aug 01, 2008

If your system has a Dual Core or a Quad Core CPU and you are using Windows Vista, you can speed up the boot process of Windows. I'm going to tell you a very simple tweak that allows your PC to boot faster then before.

MainBannerImage2

But first you should figure out what’s the current boot up time of your system. For that purpose I've created a simple script in VB.

Here's the script:

Option Explicit
On Error Resume Next
Dim Wsh, Time1, Time2, Result, PathFile, MsgResult, MsgA, AppName, KeyA, KeyB, TimeDiff
MsgA = "Warning! Close all running programs and click on OK."
KeyA = "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\RestartTime\"
KeyB = "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run\RestartTime"
AppName = "Boot Up Time"
Set Wsh = CreateObject("WScript.Shell")
PathFile = """" & WScript.ScriptFullName & """"
Result = wsh.RegRead(KeyA & "Times")
if Result = "" then
MsgResult = Msgbox (MsgA, vbOKCancel, AppName)
If MsgResult = vbcancel then WScript.Quit
Wsh.RegWrite KeyA & "Times", left(Time,8), "REG_SZ"
Wsh.RegWrite KeyB, PathFile, "REG_SZ"
Wsh.Run "cmd /c Shutdown -r -t 00", false, 0
else
Wsh.RegDelete KeyA & "Times"
Wsh.RegDelete KeyA
Wsh.RegDelete KeyB
TimeDiff = DateDiff("s",Result,left(Time,8))
MsgBox "Your system reboots in " & TimeDiff & " seconds", VbInformation, AppName
end if
wscript.Quit

Copy n Paste this code into a text editor for ex. Notepad and save the file with any name say Vista Reboot in our example but the extension should be .VBS which is the extension of a VB file.

Now to know the time taken by your system to boot up before applying the tweak, click on that Vista Reboot.vbs file and hit Enter.

A dialog box will appear giving you warning that the file you are about to run is an executable and it may contain viruses or blah! blah! blah! ( forget the warning, it’s safe). Now clicking on Ok will reboot your system and that is what we want to do. So click on OK.

After the reboot you'll see a dialog box which will be displaying the time taken by your system during reboot. Note this time.

It's time to apply the tweak. Click on Run which you will get in Start menu and type “msconfig” in the field. Click OK

This will take you to the System Configuration dialog box. Click on Boot tab given in the upper side of the dialog box and click Advanced Options button. Here click the check box for Number of Processors. This will activate the drop down menu given just below it.

If you have a Dual Core CPU select 2 or if you have a Quad Core CPU select 4. Press OK and Apply changes. Windows will now ask for your confirmation for the changes that you've made in the boot settings. Click Yes and press Restart button in the following dialog box.

After coming back to windows you'll have to restart your system again by clicking on that Vista Reboot.vbs file (like you did b4) becoz it will give us the time taken by the system to boot up.

When you get back to windows you'll see the same dialog box displaying the time in seconds.

Compare it with the previous one n see if there is some improvement.

9. In the Value Data field, give the location for your new icon for ex. C:\folder.ico ( where folder.ico will be Icon of your choice) and press OK.

10. As soon as you press OK, you’ll notice in the Left Pane the icon of Shell Icons key has changed to the one you specified.

11. Close Regedit. Now Log Off and Log On to see the changes.

12. You can see the changes in Star Menu>All Programs by clicking on a folder and also in Windows Explorer (in navigation pane). Done

This Digital Painting of Mona Lisa has been created in Adobe Photoshop by me.

Mona Lisa

I’m currently learning Adobe Photoshop so I think it’s not a bad one. Though the whole DP was not easy but I found the hands and cloth portions the more difficult ones. I’m so glad that I’ve finished it at last.

Now some comments would be appreciable so that I may know about my work and can improve it.

While I was doing some search on google, I found a nice tutorial for Windows Vista User. So I have decided to share it with you.

What you need!

  2. Windows Upgrade Anytime DVD or retail vista DVD
  3. Recovery DVD(s) for your computer
  4. USB Flash drive, external hard drive, or second internal hard drive
  5. Device Drivers for your computer
  6. The best place to find the most up to date drivers is the support or download area of your computer manufacturer's website. You will need drivers for your display, network card, wireless card, touchpad or mouse, chipset, modem, card reader, etc.
** Do NOT proceed unless you have recovery disk(s) and any data you want to keep backed up! **

Instructions
  1. Download the Activation Backup and Restore program above.
  2. Open the file and copy the ABR folder to your USB flash drive, external drive, or second internal hard drive.
  3. Double click activation_backup.exe. This will open a cmd window and extract the OEM Vista key. If all goes OK you will see two new files in the ABR folder.
    • backup-cert.xrm-ms: Backed up activation

Windows 7 Is Just the Beginning for Microsoft

Posted on July 24, 2008

As far as Microsoft is concerned, Windows 7 is just the beginning. Not a new beginning for Windows, mind you, but the debut of a revolution in human - computer interaction. At Tech Ed 2008, Microsoft Chairman Bill Gates indicated that he is betting big on natural user interfaces. “Now one of the big changes coming that I think is most underestimated is the change in interaction,” he stated. Not by coincidence, the Redmond company’s first public demonstration of Windows 7 involved almost exclusively the new touch computing technology built into the operating system.

“The way we interact with the computer has hardly changed,” Gates stated looking at the current model of interaction. “We had the graphics revolution that took us from the keyboard to the keyboard and the mouse, and it took the screen from character mode to graphics mode. But still it’s that one person sitting there, primarily using the keyboard, and the pointing device to interact with the application.”

With Microsoft Surface, its first surface computing product, the Redmond giant made a single Windows Vista machine a potential nucleus of social interaction. The secret lies in the multi-touch, gesture and object recognition capabilities - exactly the features that Windows 7 will sport, as Microsoft so amply demonstrated.

And just as security and reliability were the focus of Windows Vista, so will the natural user interface in Windows 7 be the focus of the next iteration of Windows. Microsoft is not exactly reinventing the wheel of touch computing, as the technology is hardly an innovative item any more. But what Microsoft is without a doubt is the agent which will make the natural user interface as ubiquitous as the Windows operating system.
